Finally the Greece… Corf
Saturday 28 November 7.30 - before leaving for Corfu we have to do a bit of diesel oil a few miles from Naxos. Waxes emerged, the North West wind is freezing. Away from sides the sky darkens, the wind is getting stronger and forces us to take a reef quickly. During the night the wind turns northeast, the waves face deepen and make uncomfortable navigation. We decide to change course and aim the South of Corfu.
The wind is cold, the waves are short and hollow... Lifejacket and harness are rigorous as soon as we get out of the cockpit
We we Let's warm up with a breakfast quickly between two clouds.
In short time a haircut will be necessary, and generally, It's Philip, who turns into a professional hair stylist...
Monday 30 November 3 o'clock in the morning
We see Corfu at nightfall. After having rounded the southern tip of the island, the wind is almost zero and we go back to the engine the East coast of Corfu. We cast anchor in the face of Bouka Beach, at the entrance to the channel of Levkimmi.
We sleep a few hours and jump in the annex, using the canal to the city center. Blue skies and mild temperatures in the Sun... We are the only tourists and the few people we meet greet us by "Kalimèra" or "Yassas", the only Greek words that I can understand, then that Philip, who studied Greek (former) in his youth much better control the words than me...
The city of Levkimmi is quiet and alone 2 bars are open. We are at the end of day and already it's cold. A good excuse for warm us a little drinking alcohol local Ouzo
We discuss a little with the owner of the bar which confirms to us that here it happens not big thing in winter. We will remain 2 nights, time to do a little bit of water and washing machines.
Wednesday 02 December - Corfu Town
Arrival in the South of the old fort of Corfu. Before arriving at anchor we must go sailing. I'm at the helm in manoeuvring upwind, While Philippe is in mast to get off a single shot the mainsail. Then it goes up on the roof to properly store the sail in the lazy-bag. In calm weather it's easy, but sometimes it can be freestyle!!!
Still only at anchor, facing the old fort, who is practically in the city centre. A few sailboats overwinter in the Naok marina.
Secure time schedule and let's us stretch your legs looking for a new Sim Card.
This is another street of "Rivoli" drawn by French architects, with its lanterns and arcades. It is the beginning of the tourist district.
We are surprised to see so many people on the streets and terraces of coffee. The city centre is very lively, with stores everywhere. We spoke with a passerby who told us that in Corfu he was never was the crisis!!!
A great cappuccino Rivoli Street... the mild temperatures surprises us while we are in December. It's like spring, as long as it lasts!!!
The alleys are little frequented the afternoon. Generally between 12: 00 and 17: 00 everything is closed and we have the impression that life "stop". The animation starts from 5:30 until 20: 00... but the night has fallen, just as the temperature!
We spend two days walking through the old town and the old fort. We must be the only tourists in town because everyone asks us what we're doing here!
A ride on the market of open air and for a few euros we leave with a bag of fruit and vegetables.
Is a building that resembles a Greek temple! good... some new aspect, need to find more old.
The weather continues and tomorrow we start the descent towards the South to enjoy...
