The Dodecanese Islands: Leros
The Dodecanese archipelago (which means the 12 Islands) forms a Crescent along the Turkish coast. The mountains are a little less arid than in the Cyclades, Some are even green and forested. Sitemap www.Poseidon.HCMR.gr, which gives the weather marine in Greece, indicates that sea water is at 17-18 ° C, be a few degrees higher than in the Cyclades... and that is what we are looking for.
Thursday 25 February: Nisos Levitha
We draw an outline along Amorgos from the North before heading East. The sails help us a bit, but these are the engines that make the bulk of the work. By early afternoon we land south of the tiny island of Levitha. A Bay protected the swell and the wind is waiting for us. There is a House on the Hill, a small concrete Wharf and a fishing boat. A man cutting brush at the water's edge. He immediately gets into a boat and comes to meet us we tend the mooring of a dead body. Once installed we check the concrete block at the bottom of the water which seems a little light to retain our boat, especially when the wind should pick... We therefore let the mooring and bury our anchor in the sand a few metres more far. We will sleep more quiet.
There seems to be only one family that inhabits the island. The summer they also Tavern for the people of passage. Too bad they are not yet open because it looks very nice. Ritual stroll along the paths of goats. Throwing a look from above the high dry stone walls, We see a tray with ploughed fields and cultures. Surprising in these arid Islands… There must be a source on the island!
Friday 26 February: Nisos Leros
Quickly we continue our route to Leros before the arrival of a sudden wind. Ormos Partheni North Island, is a large Bay sheltered from all winds where a large number of boats winter. The single ship from anchorage where we see someone tinkering, Marco is owned by an Italian who lives on the heights of the village. A ride ashore for we see that there are no great world. We walk to gre trails that go all the way and crossed many herds of goats and sheep which one that leaves photograph... She seems to enjoy blow-dry in the strong gusts.
The next day a small breeze pushes the last clouds and on the advice of Marco, We cross a small arm of the sea up to the island of Arkhangelos.
We throw the anchor to the tavern owner will specially open for us the same evening. Nice atmosphere with the family.
After spending a few days in this secluded, We are going to the port of Alindas.
Wednesday 2 March: Ormos Alindas
Mooring in front of the beach. Many tavernas and bars along the shady quai. There are activity and the terraces are well welcoming. Once ashore we spot a small tavern of traditional appearance where the Greeks only eat. It is a good choice... one regales oneself!!!
The next day we climb to the village buy vegetables and fruits for a few days. In the Islands, grocery stores and small supermarkets are supplied according to the frequency of ferries and in winter there are less than in summer. Even if we do not find what need us we have enough reserves of pasta to make the happiness of Philippe
We have as a neighbor a gigantic rescue ship English. He spends several hours per day to the port, but often it is in the sea, probably looking for refugees Syrians who engage to the sea from the Turkey on boats.
The days are sometimes gray and rainy, the bridge is desalted and it is an opportunity to update our blog. Swimming is not yet for today
