  1. Hello I want to install 4 LifePO4 batteries on an electric cart to have 4 8volt ( Old gel battery) How should it proceed the BMS will it pose problem thank you

    1. Hello,
First you must make an electrical diagram of your installation and decide on the desired level of protection. You must also anticipate the means of charging for this battery and how to control them.
In the simplest case you buy 4 12V lithium batteries (or two 24V batteries) with integrated BMS, and you connect these batteries in series to get 48V.

  2. Hello Philip.
I am an electronics engineer and I helped a person in my family with the electrical installation of his motorhome.
16 3.2V 200A elements had been purchased from Amazon to make a 51.2V 200A battery.
But the use of 2 Tensions, 12V and 48V posed voltage conversion problems.
I opted for a 12V 800A battery with parallel and serial elements.
    4 12.8V 200A batteries coupled to a BMS.
I put the 4 sets of 12.8V batteries coupled in parallel with a cable on the + 1mohm for each 12.8V battery.
    It works.
The problem is that elements have exceeded 3.65V.
So BMS do not cut as soon as a cell reaches 3.65V..
So I decided to charge the batteries to 13.6V.
    Which is more than enough.
    THE PROBLEM IS THE BMS.
As an electronics engineer I mentally designed the ideal BMS.
An ideal BMS would consist of 3 Modules.
A control module, a load control module and a discharge commade module.
The control module would manage the battery charge as soon as an element reached its critical voltage, discharge as soon as the critical threshold was expected and allowed active equalization of elements.
Making electronic modules for an electronics engineer is not a problem.
I have made thousands of electronic cards in my life that I have designed for industry.
PCB design is not a problem.
The problem is to know the needs to be able to make the maps on a large scale.
Electronic boards are composed of CMS components that are mounted by self-placement machines.
No need to go to China for that.

  3. Hello TAO and thank you for your unique experience lifepo4 in return . What think you of the bms 123 with sends ev-power Bluetooth ? This seems to avoid the famous dish of spaghetti and answer your expectations.

  4. Hello Philip,
Above you write “I installed a BMS manufactured by CleanPowerAuto LLC in the USA : HousePower BMS. But this company has been acquired by an integrator of lithium batteries and this BMS is no longer marketed independently. There is more support or ability to buy spare components. So I will soon find another BMS to replace. If you have experience with other BMS, I'm interested !”

Have you found an other BMS which satisfies you today ? I chose the batteries but galley at the level of the BMS.

    Thank you and good day
    Xavier

  5. Heya i am for the first time here. I came across this board and I find It truly useful & It helped me out much.
I hope to give something back and help others like you aided
    me.

  6. Bravo for your tuto Philippe! good, I'll still read a good 1/2 dozen times, but already at the 1st reading, I understand the principle….
The Guatemala hmmmmm (When it rains, rains, rains…..)
