All articles posted on the blog after January 2019 ( Rapa aux Australes ) to date have all vanished!
No other solution than to get back to work and reconstruct these two missing years until New Zealand!
January- April 2019 – THE GAMBIER
Austral Islands(Rapa) we go up north towards the Gambier Islands. We arrive on the island of Mangareva
facing the village of Rikitea. We go to the gendarmerie to declare our arrival.
The next day the schooner the "Taporo" (from Tahiti) which replenishes the island every 3 weeks arrives.
Waiting for grocery stores to be delivered, we try to retrieve our emails but it takes time because the connection is very slow.
We leave Rikitea and sail from motus to motus especially those in the north which are less frequented. Bathing is a real joy even if blacktip sharks are never far away!
They pass their way us too elsewhere!
The island of Travai, south of Mangareva, is the anchorage where we like to come. Edouard and Denise, that we have known since 2013, have their house by the lagoon.
They like to receive friends around a Tahitian oven. Everyone contributes to the preparation... men kill the pig, watch the fire and women cook small dishes. These are moments of warm sharing.
We invite them on board and spent a few days at the Motu de Papuri (far north of the lagoon) to collect shells that Denise uses to make her jewelry.
In the evening Edouard and Philippe go fishing to catch lobsters but sometimes come back "empty-handed"!
09 APRIL 2019 – DEPARTURE TO THE TUAMOTUS
We leave the Gambier with plenty of fruit ( Grapefruit, mangoes, Papayas, Lemons, coconut avocados ) from our friends' garden ( Atak and Ilona, Edouard and Denise).
