The Kingdom of Tonga has about 100 000 locals and 145 inhabitants per sq km. Many islands are deserted like Kelefesia where we stay for almost a week.
The island of Kelefesia is only 40 miles from the southern islands where we come from. No sailboat at anchor which allows us to find the right "spot" to drop anchor without too many potatoes around us.
At low tide the sandbanks appear at the tip of the island
the few rocks that emerge at the beach are a refuge for crabs
except for the one who got caught and once freedom
he faces us with our eyes wide open.
We continue to explore the island and this stick tells us
a passage through the brush
which leads to an uninhabited cabin. The singing of roosters and the squeaking of pigs are proof that the island is "maintained" from time to time since we learn that Kelefesia is for sale!
What a pity not to leave heavenly places as they are!
Our stay in Tonga will soon be over. In a few days we will head west with a stop, depending on the weather, at Minerva Reef ! Next article New Zealand
