Thursday, February 1 – Mangareva
The month starts sporting way... Mangareva island is not great and the track that in fact the tour seems flat... Browse by bike is a pleasant walk, but it's walk that we did most of the climbs. . Many farms have grown and this remains the main activity of the Gambier.
Back in the village of Rikitea (island of Mangareva) to check our mails and collect our parcel at the post office that contains a new relief for the windlass engine. Party d "Europe since November it should have arrived!!!
The next day the first time we go to the post. Unfortunately our order is still not arrived .. .strange because there is from the tracking??? No other choice to wait for the next boat in 15 about days.
Saturday 3 February – Taravai
We return on Taravai wet across from Edward and Denise in the tranquil lagoon of Patito. The weekend after Hervé and Valerie, who have their place of Taravai village, organize a BBQ with all the sailboats. Valérie, also smiling...
Everyone brings food and c "is also an opportunity for us to review vessels known in the Marquesas.
and make some parts of petanque!
Time passes quickly between kayak for Nathalie, Philippe climbing up to the Bay of Onemea with Bryan and Katleen,
and fishing with Edward outside the lagoon hoping to catch a tuna or a mahi-mahi. We are scanning the horizon looking for... early birds of hunting...
Let's DCP in DCP (Fish Concentration device), but not a touch of the day despite the 4 water lines.
Thursday 8 February - Akamaru
The weather is particularly calm to join Jane and Marc (Ratafia) in the turquoise and shallow lagoon which borders the Akamaru island. The entrance to the lagoon is a narrow zig - zag between the potatoes of coral. Marc joined us as an annex to guide us. It is in 2 m water Nathalie begins to scroll through the channel when suddenly the motor of the windlass (winch to lift the anchor) stops dead. We must continue down the chain in his hand. Philippe disassemble the engine but impossible to repair. Now we are even more excited to receive the new motor of the windlass planned as a backup!! Finally there is worst place to there be blocked without windlass.
Saturday 17 February - Patito
To celebrate the birthday of Nathalie, Philip had arranged with Edward and Oh-Tak a BBQ to Patito. But without windlass it was impossible to wet by 15 metres of water. Jane and mark who each year spend the hurricane season to Gambier have installed a deadweight across from Edward and Denise... they offer us to use it. And the day says, a couple of sailing ships gather in the Bay.
While the pig finished grilling, Nathalie made us a speech with his "birthday bread" in hand. To make a little different this time, Philippe to indicated the age in Roman numerals... find the error!
And the party continues later in the afternoon and evening...
We remain the rest of the month of February in the meantime our windlass engine happens to Patito…
