The Whitsundays
The Whitsundays Islands between Queensland's northeast coast and the Great Barrier Reef are mostly uninhabited. They are characterized by hiking trails in the rainforest and large white sandy beaches that delight tourists.
Them 74 Whitsundays Islands…We have choices to make.
Cid Harbour – Sawmill Bay
This is not where we will be able to swim, Floating markers scattered throughout the bay indicate the ban on swimming following numerous tiger shark attacks. We won't even put a toe in the water!
Sawmill Whitsunday Peak Track
The weather is not terrible it rained the day before but we absolutely want to do the great hike of 4 kms to Whitsunday Peak at 437m. It's not easy it's just going up, The rocks in places are slippery I find that it does not end. So we make some good photo stops “apology” to catch our breath!
Another effort!
The first to arrive is Philippe a little “Sweating”! Somewhat foggy panoramic view of Hamilton Island (to the south) where charter companies gather and mangrove.
Airlie Beach
After a week in Cid Harbour due to bad weather, we return to the coast at Airlie Beach. It is a seaside resort that tourists particularly like for its tropical climate but also for its many activities offered by tourist agencies. We stay a few days at anchor in front of the marina for the ritual of the races. In less of 10 days we should come back to pick up a package delivered to friends' house.
Hook Island – Hayman Island
The weather is not with us. The south-east trade winds are constant and this does not allow us to explore the beautiful beaches to the east of the islands.. More particularly that of “Whitehaven Bay” known for being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We spend some time at Hook Island in different bays, Nara Inlet and Stonehaven then go up to Hayman Island where we can swim.
Airlie Beach
Second shipment to Arlie Beach the package arrived. We anchor in front of the yacht club. A contribution from $15 monthly gives us the right to access to the pontoon of the annexes very practical because the city center is nearby.
We meet Joanne and Mark at a dinner in front of the public pool with three pools. The sign reminds “Bathers” An essential rule of hygiene!
